Ft. Lauderdale International Airport
T4 International Terminal Claims and CBP
3D LASER SCANNING AT FLL
OVERVIEW
Ranked 21st in passenger traffic and the 14th busiest International
gateway in the United States, Ft. Lauderdale – Hollywood International
Airport is engaged in improvements to all four terminals as well as
major civil projects to support the increase in passenger flow. FLL is
also on track to become the hub for Southwest Airlines destinations
to the Caribbean.
DBS was contracted to provide laser scanning services for the documentation of the existing conditions in the interstitial spaces above the International claims and the CBP area totaling 40,000 sf.
3D LASER SCANNING SERVICES
The D/B team of James A. Cummings/Balfour Beatty and PGAL reached out to DBS due to our breadth of knowledge and experience regarding aviation terminal facilities and BHS.
Existing drawings of these particular spaces were not updated sufficiently for the design and construction team to perform their work with confidence, which is typical with these projects.
PROJECT RESULTS
DBS quickly scanned and generated a survey grade AutoCAD model for the team containing all structural and MEP components within the scope and tied the model to the project coordinate system for easy integration with the contractors BIM effort.
Georeferencing the model and placing control points within the scope, also provides symmetry with the contractors survey team for construction layout.
